There are two main types of cross country skiing: classic and skate.
Classic skiing can be easier to start out with as a beginner, since the motion required to get moving is not too different from walking - in fact, the Norwegian phrase for "to go cross country skiing" is "å gå på ski," which literally means "to walk on skis."
Skate skiing is more similar to ice skating in its motion. If you are familiar with gliding sports like ice skating, rollerblading, or even alpine skiing, skate skiing might be easier to pick up. It is typically faster than classic skiing.
Each type of skiing uses different equipment, so your skis, boots, and poles will be different for each technique. If you need more help deciding, reach out to us! Test article
